LEAH FERRILL

Owner & Swim Instructor

👋🏼 Hi there! I'm Leah Ferrill, owner and swim coach here at Water Wonder. I've been teaching and training swimmers for 16 years. After getting my fins wet teaching in my home state of Mississippi, I moved to New York City. There I taught group and private swim lessons throughout Manhattan & The Hamptons before making my way to Texas. I have extensive training covering all levels of swim education -- parent/child, learn to swim, stroke development, and competitive swimming. While in New York, I helped develop and pilot a free parent and child swim class for infants aged 2-6 months. I've also participated in advanced, in-water trainings taught by Olympic gold medalists. I am so excited to bring my experience and instructional approach to swimmers here in Houston. When working with little ones, I offer a gentle, child-led approach to learning how to swim. Through trust and mutual respect, my swimmers develop skills, confidence, and a love of the water that will last a lifetime. This approach also allows me to teach a wide range of abilities, behaviors and personalities. For adult classes, I find that knowledge is power. Not only do we learn the skills that will make you a stronger swimmer, but I help you understand the "why" behind it. I love finding new ways to help kids and adults learn!

"Leah has taught our son swim lessons for the last three summers and we're constantly amazed at his progress . He's become much more comfortable in the water, and the skills Leah teaches all build towards developing swimming competence. She uses developmentally appropriate techniques so that her swimmers are challenged, but also always feel safe. She's an awesome cheerleader, and her enthusiasm is infectious! We can't recommend Leah enough." -Hallie K.

"Ms. Leah is the best!!! Our hesitant swimmer came out of his shell & got comfortable in the water while learning excellent skills! She builds rapport with her students from the moment they meet. Highly recommend Water Wonder Swim!" -Debra B.

"Leah connected right away with our 4 year old granddaughter- she was fun & personable while still focusing on skills needed to improve swimming. By the end of 4 days in a row, our granddaughter was floating on her back, swimming to the bottom to get dive sticks, and flipping from back to front so she could get to the wall safely. Leah also accommodated us needing her four days in a row while our granddaughter was visiting us for the summer. I strongly recommend her for your child’s swim lessons- so nice to have someone come to the house & not have to pack up to go somewhere."

"Best swim instructor I have ever used. Leah teaches my children in a fun, loving, and safe way. I use her year after year with my good older swimmers (age 7 & 9) and my young beginners (3-4 years old). HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!" -Emily D.

"Leah has a calmness about her that my daughters responded very well to in the water. My 7yo had some negative experiences with swim instructors in the past, and has had a lot of anxiety when getting in the water.Leah's tone, kindness and instruction was just what my 7 yo needed to make progress in her abilities to swim and gave her the confidence she needed. I love that my 5yo lessons were just as impactful, but were geared for her capabilities and learning style at her age. She makes lessons fun with songs and games which my girls loved! At the end of each lesson my daughters would want to stay in the pool and show me all the tools they had been taught rather than running out of there to escape! The girls swimming skills were so impressive I decided to add lessons for my 2yo son. Again, I loved how she tailored his lessons to him. He loved being in the water with toys, games, and songs. She was able to keep the lesson interesting and fun for him which kept him engaged. Leah is a fantastic wim instructor! My girls were able to enjoy their summer at the pool and swim like fish. Jumping off of diving boards, swimming from one end of the pool to the other, and most important being mindful of swim safety by remembering important tools to get to the edge of the pool and not panic when need be. I look forward to working with Leah in the future." - Katie G.
